WHO WE ARE

GIVING HOPE, ONE PERSON AT A TIME Since 2013 Hope Matters International (HMI), is a Christian non-profit 501(c)(3) organization serving in the highlands of Western, Kenya. Our strategic location allows us to provide direct service to patients coming from three different counties (Uasin Gishu, Kakamega, and Nandi). For eight-years Hope Matters International has actively put hands and feet to the vision of providing holistic care for the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of those living in our Kenyan community. Our approach in fulfilling this vision is to utilize three major components: healthcare, community advancement and development programs.

Healthcare
  • Preventative Health - We provide medical care with a preventative health focus.
  • Comprehensive Health - We are working hard to be a one-stop-shop for our patients. We provide services ranging from health exams, urgent care, laboratory, radiology, physiotherapy, maternity, pharmacy, and eventually even surgery.
  • Education - We place a strong emphasis on patient education so that patients are empowered to make knowledgeable decisions about their healthcare and well being.
  • Loving Atmosphere - We create and operate within an atmosphere where patients feel loved, accepted and empowered.

Community Advancement
  • Increased Access to Care - We mobilize our medical and educational programs, traveling into extremely rural and unreached regions in order to reach disadvantaged peoples with limited access to healthcare.
  • Empowerment - We intentionally seek and pursue opportunities to empower orphans, vulnerable children, the disabled, widows and women.

Development Programs
  • Sustainability - We strive to operate under a sustainable model with long-term commitment to the people and communities we serve.
  • Local Partnerships - We partner with local community leaders and health-care workers by training and working alongside them to improve the quality of care in their own communities

WHAT WE DO

Primary Healthcare & Preventative Health
Every day we offer our community primary health care and preventative healthcare. Our care in these areas addresses the majority of a person’s health needs throughout their lifetime. This includes physical, mental and social well-being and it is people-centred rather than disease-centred. We provide a comprehensive and holistic approach that includes health promotion, disease prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, screenings, check-ups, and patient counseling to prevent illnesses, disease, or other health problems. We empower individuals, families and communities to take charge of their own health. By providing care in the community as well as care through the community, the healthcare we provide addresses not only individual and family health needs, but also the broader issue of public health.

24-Hour Urgent Care
Patients can walk into our 24-Hour Urgent care any time or hour of the day to receive basic treatments and outpatient services.

Maternity Ward & Child Health
Mothers are treated in our Maternity Ward for  prenatal care and babies are seen  for wellness. We also offer continuity of care, offering ultrasounds to screen and detect any challenges that could arise in pregnancy. We deliver babies regularly in our Maternity Ward, we have babies being born around the clock and we always have staff available to birth babies.

Physiotherapy Department
Our Physiotherapist sees patients ranging from children to elderly adults. The care administered by this department is amazing! They support and serve our patients with treatments ranging from massage, therapy, walking and any other assistance needed to help patients achieve mobility.

Pharmacy & Laboratory
When we see patients at our facilities, we are able to prescribe and distribute medications on site at the time of appointment. Our patients don’t have to leave to another location to receive their necessary medications. We also have laboratory services on site, which enable us to quickly diagnose and treat our patients. The laboratory is able to administer tests that previously would have required travel to medical centers over an hour away. In Kenya, travel for this long of a distance is extremely expensive and lengthy, creating considerable obstacles for patients in need of care. It’s incredible to provide access to complete blood counts instead of just the hemoglobin; we are able to test the liver and kidneys. Our Pharmacy & Laboratory make the VIllage of Hope Hospital a one stop treatment center, everything is on site in one location. Patients are seen by the clinicians, they recieve diagnostic tests as needed and receive treatment right then and there.

Admissions
We are currently able to support basic short term admissions for patients that need to stay overnight or for several days at a time.

Dental Care

In both the Hospital and our Chebaiywa Clinic, we administer basic and routine dental care such as restorations, oral surgery (extractions), endodontics (root canals), periodontal treatment (root planing), sealants, cleanings and check-ups.

Health Education & Empowering Communities

We work to empower our community by protecting and improving the health of them through education on disease and injury prevention and the promotion of healthy lifestyles. Through health education we address health issues that impact communities as whole; hygiene, water treatment, nutrition, basic first aid, chronic disease management, pregnancy education, and well child care. Our Public Health Officer takes the lead in this area of our ministry and treats communities as their patients.

Chaplaincy Team

One of the most important aspects of our approach in caring for people in the communities of Kenya is spiritual care. We are not planted in this community to only treat for the body, but to treat the soul and the spirit. Our Chaplaincy Team provides spiritual care for our patients.

Outreach & Mobile Clinics

We strongly believe we should not wait for our patients to come to us. Because of this we have an Outreach Team who goes out into the surrounding villages and engages at the community level, reaching patients where they are. It is extremely common for this team to encounter patients with chronic issues, who desperately need care and could have had these long term issues cured with basic treatment had they been seen when the condition began. We often are able to comfort and treat these patients through the teamwork of our Public Health Officer, Chaplaincy Team and Outreach Team. What a blessing to have a well equipped hospital to refer those who need further care back to.
